Untitled
The teacher asks a question.
You think you know the answer, you suspect
You aren’t the only one in the classroom
Who thinks [their] answer is correct, …the person
In question is someone else, and on that
You aren’t the greatest living authority,
But you raise your hand.
You raise the top of your desk
And take out a pencil.
You look at the ceiling.
You raise your hand and there is
Some firmness in your fingers,
Which aren’t even moving, …
The teacher repeats the question
Up on the ceiling, on one of the tiles,
A bug crawls upside down
And disappears into a little crack.
You think you know the answer, you suspect
You aren’t the only one in the classroom
Who thinks [their] answer is correct, …the person
In question is someone else, and on that
You aren’t the greatest living authority,
But you raise your hand.
You raise the top of your desk
And take out a pencil.
You look at the ceiling.
You raise your hand and there is
Some firmness in your fingers,
Which aren’t even moving, …
The teacher repeats the question
Up on the ceiling, on one of the tiles,
A bug crawls upside down
And disappears into a little crack.
