A Tractor Picture

by Kathy Keil

He coolly faces the camera
Under his Don's Feed and Supply hat,
Protected from the sun
Under the cab of the red tractor.
There in the midst of
Corn and hay and cows and chickens-
Together with the boy-
His German stoicism hiding a smile
As he wonders if the corn will be
"knee-high by the 4th."

by Kathy Keil's son

HOW COOL WAS I!
BIG ROARING CHERRY
AND ME AT THE HELM
LOOKING DOWN ON SKY & LAND
GIANT WHEELS RUMBLING BELOW
ME & UNCLE CLETUS, TOGETHER! "JUST-A-SWANGIN"
THAT BASTION OF GERMAN STOICISM
WITH A TWINKLE IN HIS EYE
(I LIKE TO THINK)
SLOW NEVER FELT SO FAST,
HIGH NEVER FELT SO HIGH!
MAN IT'S GONNA BE FUN
ONCE UNCLE CLETUS LETS ME
HOLD THE WHEEL.
